Working as a Medical Virtual Assistant
Answers for medical administrative professionals in Latin America considering remote work with a US practice.
You work remotely for a single US medical practice, handling their administrative and documentation work: answering patient calls, scheduling, chart documentation, insurance verification, prior authorizations or billing follow-up depending on the role. You are not clinical staff and you do not give medical advice.
Prior experience working for a US medical practice or billing company. This is a firm requirement, not a preference. We do not place people who are new to US healthcare, because clients hire us specifically so they do not have to train someone on US payers and documentation standards.
We hire across Latin America. You need a reliable internet connection, your own workstation, and to be able to work US business hours.
You work your client's time zone, a full 9 to 5 on their clock. Because Latin America sits close to US hours, that is a normal working day rather than a night shift, which is one of the main reasons people stay in these roles for years.
Strong spoken and written English is essential, because most roles involve talking to patients directly. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is an advantage rather than a requirement, though many of our clients specifically want it.
Five stages: we verify your prior US medical experience, run a background check, assess your role-specific skills alongside spoken and written English, put you through HIPAA training, then a final interview with our placement team. After that the client interviews you and makes the decision.
Yes, and it is completed before you start with any client. You also take refresher training every year for as long as you are placed. This is not optional and it is not charged to you.
It depends on the role and how quickly a matching client comes up. Front-desk and intake roles move fastest. We would rather tell you honestly that it may take time than keep you waiting on a promise.
You are contracted through us, and we handle the in-country contract and payroll. Rates depend on the role and your experience, and we discuss the specific figure with you during the process rather than advertising a range that may not apply to you.
You supply your own computer and internet connection. Clients provide access to their software, such as their EMR and phone system.
Both. Some clients need full-time cover, others want part-time support for their busiest hours. Tell us what you are looking for and we will match accordingly.
Tell us early. Sometimes it is a workflow mismatch that can be fixed, and sometimes it is simply the wrong pairing, in which case we look for a different client rather than leaving you in a role that is not working.
Apply through our jobs page. If your background matches what our clients are hiring for, we will be in touch to start the process.
